Chromebook classes are a success!

It’s been a wild ride this summer! This was my first teaching job with children on Chromebooks and I wasn’t sure what to expect but they won my heart over from the get go and proceeded to amaze me day in and day out. Our K-1 children learned the basics on how to coordinate use of a touch-pad mouse. It was a challenge after being used to using a touch screen tablet, but it was mastered along with other skills by the end of our summer camp.

Our 2nd graders – 4th graders learned typing using a fun app called Animal Typing where fingers are flashed on the screen over a keyboard so they could learn which fingers to use for each letter. We had great success with this class and to see young children typing 10-20 wpm is impressive! A few of our typists blew out the scoreboard mastering speeds of 21, 32 and 50 wpm!

Our older children took on spreadsheets and to my amazement absorbed the beginners class 100% and learned how to keyboard in numbers quickly. They learned how to add, subtract, multiply and divide columns and rows of number as well as write basic formulas, make graphs and format the spreadsheet. My favorite quote in this class from a 5th grader was, “I don’t know why I like this, but I do!” The Chromebooks were a hit and we should all be proud of what “our” kids accomplished. Great Job!!!!!
